Abstract
The industrial by-products as a substitute for non-renewable materials in the production of cement and concrete has attracted considerable attention for sustainable development purposes. One of the products is fly ash cement due to stricter air pollution regulations aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power plants in recent years. In this research, the thermodynamic modeling of cement mortar hydration has been addressed first, and the compressive strength of cement mortar has been predicted using the calculated hydration products. After validation, four types of fly ash in classes C, F and fly ash with a heat loss percentage of 20% at temperatures of 23, 33, 43 and 53 degrees Celsius in environmental conditions without magnesium sulfate attack, moderate, severe and very severe magnesium sulfate attack, are investigated. Cement mortar with FA6F fly ash in XS3 condition has high sulfate resistance for all hydration temperatures. Cement mortars with FA6C, FA23 and FA fly ash are very sensitive to hydration temperature to resist sulfates, and with increasing temperature, their sulfate resistance decreases so that in XS3 environmental conditions, it is placed in the category of cement with low sulfate resistance. Comparing model against experimental results shows the reliability of the achievements.
